L1 Traffic Controller (TC) - One Day Course $250 + gst
NZTA Transit Level 1 Basic Working on the Road
A one-day course designed for all Road Controlling Authority (RCA) project staff, all Engineer's supervision staff, contractor's staff with on site responsibilities and Traffic Controllers.
Training Aims
- Provide participants with an overview of the temporary traffic management process
- Develop an understanding of the minimum standards for Basic Temporary Traffic Management at Roadwork Sites on Level 1 roads.
- Enhanced knowledge, strategies, attitudes and skills needed to implement legal requirements
- Give participants the opportunity to improve core health and safety management skills, and give participants the opportunity to improve these skills while discussing on the job situations and develop practical solutions to them
- A suitable level of attainment to attend the NZTA Transit Level 1 STMS Site Traffic Management Supervisor course.
L1 (Traffic Controller) TC Refresher- One Day Course $250 + gst. Must have a Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) qualification not expired longer than one year.
L1 Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS)- Two Day Course $375 + gst. Must hold a current TC qualification or has held an STMS (at any time) in the past. To attend a Level 1 STMS course a trainee must have held their first TC qualification for a minimum of a month.
The highest qualification for Level 1 Temporary Traffic Management, the STMS has ultimate responsibility for overall Temporary Traffic Management at roadwork sites.
The 2 day course is designed for
- all RCA Project Managers
- all Engineer's staff who prepare contract documents, check and approve TMPs
- all Engineer's project management and senior site supervision staff
- all Contractor's staff who: prepare TMPs, undertake the duties of an STMS
- all Contractor's project management staff
- all Safety Auditors who will undertake safety audits of traffic management at work sites
- others who will undertake similar work for Level 1 roads
Training Aims
The course aims to provide personnel responsible for the planning and supervision of traffic safety at roadwork sites and with major temporary traffic management responsibilities:
- a detailed view of the temporary traffic management process
- a detailed knowledge of their responsibilities, and
- a detailed knowledge of those items that they may be required to take responsibility for.
People who successfully complete the course are able to:
- describe traffic safety for roadwork sites
- design layouts for temporary traffic control
- supervise the implementation of temporary traffic control
- supervise the maintenance of temporary traffic control
- check and approve TMPs
- undertake the duties of a STMS on Level 1 roads
- assess site situations and develop practical situations
L1 STMS Refresher- One Day Course $250 + gst. STMS qualification expired no longer than one year.

The cost of each course is based on a minimum number of participants.
High attendance assists in reducing the costs of the workshops allowing Action Traffic Control to offer more competitive rates when compared with other training providers.
